And so my story begins…
I left behind all my books in Canada when I made to move to England almost three months ago. The more accurate description would be ‘I left a limb behind’. Never have I had so few books in my possession.
Sometimes, I would just sit and look at my bookshelves. It was calming and comforting to know so many lives and stories existed right before me and I could jump into any one of them.
Now, I have a small stack of only 15 or so books.
Nope. That’s not going to cut it!
At first, this was rather unsettling. What would I stare at?! However, after discovering the wonderful world of English charity shops, I found I could rebuild my library and still be able to afford to eat occasionally.
My first task was to restock my Harry Potter series, which is surprisingly harder than I expected! I’m still missing Prisoner of Azkaban, Half-Blood Prince, and Deathly Hallows. However, I did manage to snag two copies of Chamber of Secrets for £0.39 each. Two copies, you ask? Well, they are two different covers and I obviously need both.
Throughout my quest, I will be on the hunt for old favourites and new obsessions.
It will be a difficult and satisfying journey, and will involve a lot of staring at shelves at home and in numerous shops.
I seem to do that quite well.
You’ve taken the reverse journey to my brother — he’s just moved to Canada from England! But he’s not particularly bookish, so his main problem was transporting his musical instruments (and he has plenty of those…).
Yikes, those can be pretty bulky as well! Can’t be fun to take a guitar on a plane.
