CLOSED [Giveaway] Win a House Edition of Harry Potter and the Philosopher’s Stone

Harry Potter House Edition Giveaway

Harry Potter has been a massive part of so many people’s lives; I definitely wouldn’t be the person I am today if I hadn’t grown up alongside Harry (and I’m still waiting for my Hogwarts acceptance letter in case the Ministry of Magic is reading this).  I can’t imagine what the world would be like without Hogwarts.

In honour of the 20th anniversary of the first Harry Potter book, I’m going to give away one special edition hardcover copy of Philosopher’s Stone!

The winner will be able to choose one of the special 20th anniversary house editions: Gryffindor, Slytherin, Ravenclaw, or Hufflepuff

Ends July 23, 2017. I’ll be purchasing the book through Book Depository, so it’s open internationally as long as they ship to your country.

  1. I’d bring the fist four books of the Harry Potter saga and The golden dynasty by Kristen Ashley

  2. Oh man, I can’t narrow it down to 5 books! I’d say Challenger Deep by Neal Shusterman (one of my all-time favourite books), The Martian by Andy Weir, a couple of Harry Potters, and I guess a book about what to do when you’re stuck on an island!

  3. I’d bring favorites: The Piper’s Son by Melina Marchetta, The Hating Game by Sally Thorne, Raw blue by Kirsty Eagar, Making Faces by Amy Harmon, The Winner’s Kiss by Marie Rutkoski. I would bring more, but if I could only bring five, these would be the ones. I love them to death and every year I re-read them, because I miss them!

  4. Oh god! This is hard. I would want to have books that I love and re-read regularly since I might need some comforting on the island. Most definitely one of Harry Potter, maybe one of the Lux series, ACOMAF, one of Lunar Chronicles, and The Night Circus. Don’t ask how I narrowed it down to 5, it was a struggle.

  5. Why would you make us choose just 5 books…. this is hard.
Okay, I would take outlander, a court of mist and fury and Harry potter and the goblet of fire, because those are the books I cannot help but re-read again and again. And Imwould tape petter pan and little woman becouse those are the books that defined my childhood.

  6. These are SO PRETTY! Ehem, okay, the question. If I could only choose five books to take with me … well let’s get the obvious choice out of the way and as first pick take a large book about island survival. Gotta stay alive long enough to read the other books right? Other than that I’d go for personal favorites I wouldn’t mind re-reading many times. Probably The Raven Boys by Maggie Stiefvater, Monstrous Regiment by Terry Pratchett, my absolute favorite book Watership Down by Richard Adams. And for my last pick, I’m still reading More Than This by Patrick Ness and I’ve just got to know how it ends, so it’s coming with me too.

  7. “If you were stuck on an island, which five books would you want with you and why?”
This is hard. Umm… Harry Potter (Obviously, but please don’t make me pick which one), Taran Wanderer (my favorite from a huge comfort read series), Wicked (a book that really put me into an interesting headspace after reading it), Young Warriors (short stories compiled by Tamora Pierce? Need I say more?), and Me Talk Pretty One Day (laugh out loud humor is always appreciated)

  8. 1. I Sold Myself To The Devil For Vinyls… Pitiful I Know
    2. The Bronze Horseman
    3. Harry Potter #6
    4. Six of Crows
    5. Timeless

  9. I guess something about survival in the wild, because else I’ll die without having time to read the other books I brought, which would be a shame. Definitely a Harry Potter book, The Hate U Give, Crooked Kingdom and maybe another Harry Potter 😀

  10. Five books to an island would be my all-time favorite “I miss you, I miss you!” by Peter Pohl, and Dave Duncan’s quadrilogy “A Man of His Word”, a fantasy series I reread all the time anyway. 😉

  11. I would bring a survival guide, Aristotle and Dante Discover the Secrets of the Universe, Six of Crows, A Study in Charlotte and Les Miserables.

  12. I would bring Harry Potter, The Lightning Thief, Miss Peregrine’s Home for Peculiar Children, Murder on the Orient Express, and The Demon King.

  13. Wow… only five is hard. I’m in the middle of a Harry Potter reread, so I’d take one of them but not sure which one (probably one of the last four), Gone with the Wind (it was my Mom’s favourite book and I have yet to read it), Ready Player One (one of my all time faves), Anne of Green Gables (need some Canadiana in there) and Goodnight Tweetheart (a nice little romance).

Thanks for the chance to win!

  14. I’d bring the last five books of the Harry Potter saga, because I’ve read the first 2 books a million times.

  15. Hmm. I think I would bring the four Raven Cycle books because I’d never get tired of reading them, and it would give me the opportunity I’ve been looking for to full-on memorize them. Plus, I wouldn’t be frustrated by not having the rest of the series. I would also bring Infinite Jest, since it would take me an actual lifetime to puzzle out that monster.

    1. Oops, forgot the WHY.
The Bible — still haven’t read it all the way through. I figure if I’m on an island, I might. Also, it will remind me how much prayer I need!
Harry Potter series — it never gets old.
Pride and Prejudice — favorite book of all time.
Bridget Jones Diary — so funny, and it will get my mind off being hungry, except when Bridget weighs herself constantly.
How-to-not-die-when-you-are-stuck-on-an-island — maybe it will have something about edible plants, or how to build a lean-to.

  16. 1) A book by Elizabeth Peters (The Serpent and the Crown was one I really enjoyed. I think I got the title right).
2 and 3) Agatha Christie’s The Seven Dials Mystery and another Agatha Christie (Maybe an edition with several novels in it or the complete Miss Marple stories).
    4) The Complete Sherlock Holmes
    5) A Harry Potter book

  17. First of all 1) and 2) I’d definitely bring Harry potter and the Prisoner of Azkaban and Harry Potter and The Deathly Hallows because for me harry potter series is a happy and safe place to go whenever i’m feeling down. So when i’m stuck in an island, I need something to be happy.
    3) Then ACOMAF because I love them and they are like my family 🙂
    4) The Mysterious Island by Jules Vern because it has everything you need to survive in an island.
and finally 5) The Mark of Athena because hey I need Leo and Percy in my life to cheer me up :):)

  18. 1) Prepper’s Long-Term Survival Guide by Jim Cobb, because I don’t want to die.
    2) Infinite Jest, because I love David Foster Wallace, but reading that has always seemed like too big of a time commitment. If I’m stuck on an island with only 5 books, though, I’ll have all of the time in the world!
    3) The Five People You Meet in Heaven by Mitch Albom, because it’s one of my all-time favourites and it would keep me hopeful.
    4) Ender’s Game by Orson Scott Card, because I would want to be able to escape into a world very different from the island, and that’s my favourite book that would do that without making me wish I had the rest of the series.
    5) Pocketful of Names by Joe Coomer, because it takes place on the coast of Maine, the state where I was born, and it resembles some of my favourite places. It would be bittersweet because it would remind me of the world I love that I’ve left behind.

  19. Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire – it’s my favourite and also the first one I actually owned a copy of (thanks Mum!) so it holds sentimental value as well.
The first GoT book – I haven’t read them yet, and they’re all enormous, even to me so being on a deserted island would give me plenty of time to read it.
The Tale of the Folk of the Faraway Tree – This has all three Faraway Tree novels in one book and I can’t remember how many times I read it as a kid. I could read it if I was feeling lonely or sad.
The Blood of Olympus – the final Percy novel. It’s a big one as well, and because I’ve read all of them, I don’t need to reference the others, so I can just focus on all the adventure happening in the book.
One of Mary Roach’s books – they’re all really interesting and they’re all funny. There might even be something about surviving on a desert island in one of them.

  20. I would definitely bring some Harry Potter! I think my favorite is Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire, because it’s when things get really dark.
    Pride and Prejudice.
    Lonesome Dove.
    Lord of the Rings.
Moby Dick, because I haven’t read it and I could finally get around to it!

  21. The impossible of all impossible questions…

The Nature of Jade, Harry Potter 3 and 7, Goodbye Days, and Eona.

Of course, ask me next week and these may have changed!

  22. Five? ANNA AND THE FRENCH KISS (Stephanie Perkins), HARRY POTTER AND THE GOBLET OF FIRE (J. K. Rowling), THERAPY (Sebastian Fitzek), MISTRAL’S DAUGHTER (Judith Krantz) and MURDER ON THE ORIENT EXPRESS (Agatha Christie). I’ve re-read these books many times, so, if I was stuck on an island, I wouldn’t mind re-reading them over and over and over again. On the other side, I’d have a wide variety of genres, so I wouldn’t be bored ahahaha
Thank you for the giveaway, Dana! I’m dying to have one of these gorgeous editions! 😀 😀

  23. Being stuck in an island would most certainly drive me crazy but the 5 books I would have with me are: Fangirl by Rainbow Rowell, Harry Potter and the Order of the Fenix and Harry Potter and The Prisoner Of Azkaban, both by J.K. Rowling, I’ll give you the sun by Jandy Nelson and Six of crows by Leigh Bardugo.

  24. That’s a toughie!

    My five would be:
To Kill a Mockingbird – one of my all time favourite books, I actually did my English GCSE on the book as I loved it so much.
Harry Potter and the Philosophers Stone – because it introduced me to a magical world and holds a lot of happy memories and I love reading it over and over
Growing up Twice – I’m not much of a chick lit fan usually but this Rowan Coleman book is such an easy read and I really enjoy her books.
The Magic Faraway Tree – Enid Blyton, what more can I say? A fantastic book full of memories of my childhood and I love it.
Glass House. – The first of the Morganville vampire books which I loved and read in about two days and would love an excuse to get around to reading it again.

  25. ACOMAF, Geekerella, The Little Prince, Pride And Prejudice and any of the Harry Potter books. They’re my favorite books, and I wouldn’t be able to survive a day without them 🙂
